SUMMARY:Folk Music Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday\, July 6th from 7-8:30pm for an evening of Live Folk Music\, here at the farm in Somerville\, ME! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Satisfy your love of art and nature in a special outdoor musical event at Pumpkin Vine Family Farm on Saturday evening\, July 6. A truly unique celebration of sound\, Fiddles and Feathers combines live folk music\, beginning at 6:15\, with the chance to hear – and learn about! – the eastern whippoorwill\, whose magical call\, once iconic of summer evenings\, is now in decline. \nVisitors are welcome to arrive at 6 pm to find their perfect place on our new event lawn; lawn chairs and /or picnic blankets are recommended\, as are bug spray\, hats\, and sweaters. As the suns descends over the farm fields\, enjoy the energetic and diverse folk music of Katherine Liccardo on fiddle and Matt Consul on mandolin. Professional musicians from New York City\, Katherine and Matt have not only made Maine their home\, but they have embraced the local fiddle and folk traditions\, including an annual performance at the farm.  \nWhen darkness brings their performance to a close\, the sounds of nature take center stage. As dusk deepens\, the farm’s resident whippoorwill begins to call\, repeating its distinctive song as it patrols the boundaries of its territory. Logan Parker\, an avian field ecologist who has been studying these elusive nocturnal birds around Maine\, will make a presentation at 8pm about the work of the Maine Nightjar Monitoring Project and how we can work together to help whippoorwills and nighthawks recover.  \nTo keep these events open to all\, there is no admission fee. For those who are able\, the suggested donation for the concert is $20. Donations are also gratefully accepted to support the important research and conservation efforts of the Maine Nightjar Project. Please note: there is no raindate for this event\, so in case of bad weather it will be cancelled. Please check Pumpkin Vine Family Farm’s website\, Facebook\, or Instagram for updates\, or contact Kelly at (207) 549-3096 or email info@pumpkinvinefamilyfarm.com.  \n

SUMMARY:Whip-poor-wills In Maine
DESCRIPTION:Join us July 6th\, 2024 beginning at 8pm for a very special talk about Whip-poor-wills with Logan Parker of the Maine Nightjar Monitoring Project! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Logan Parker of the Maine Nightjar Monitoring Project will be here at Pumpkin Vine Family Farm on the evening of July 6th after our Folk Music Concert to present a lecture focused on the ongoing efforts to study Maine’s nightjars: Eastern Whip-poor-will and Common Nighthawk. \nThese elusive nocturnal birds have declined significantly in recent decades across their breeding ranges and require specialized methods to gather the data needed to inform their conservation. Join us to hopefully hear our own resident Whip-por-will and learn about these fascinating species along with how you can help them recover!  \nLogan is an avian field ecologist with the Maine Natural History Observatory. He initiated efforts to study Maine’s nightjars in 2017. This citizen science project was initiated to gather insights on the status of Maine’s nightjars: the Eastern Whip-poor-will and Common Nighthawk. In 2023\, the project expanded to gather data on nightjar migration and breeding biology. \nThe MNMP is conducting research at sites across Maine\, including at Pumpkin Vine Family Farm! \nWe hope you’ll join us to enjoy some beautiful music\, to learn more about these beautiful birds.  \nAdmission is free\, but donations to support their importantrehabilitation work are greatly appreciated.
