More About Pumpkin

While it was kind of chance that Pumpkin’s name was the same as the farm’s, (her mother Sage was bred on Halloween, and that line is always named for food) we couldn’t be more pleased to have Pumpkin as our farm mascot. Not only is she beautiful with an engaging personality, but she truly combines the best of the various lines we’ve been crossing. She was the last, and one of the very few, daughters we got from our foundation doe Sage, one of our earliest goats to earn an SG designation! Sage was a force of nature, and Pumpkin, while mellower, has her big personality and stature. As a first freshening one-year old, she made over a gallon of milk. She was cheerfully producing 6.3 lbs in November, some 7 months later, and still managed to look radiant at her October appraisal, ranking very good for dairy strength and body, and topping our one-year-olds. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that she continues to grow and flourish.
